Resourcing

The practice of identifying and accessing internal resources—positive experiences, safe places, supportive people, or empowering memories—that provide a foundation of safety and strength when working with trauma. Resources help build capacity and serve as anchors when processing difficult material.

How to practice

  1. 1Identify positive, safe, or empowering experiences in your life
  2. 2Notice the physical sensations that accompany these resourceful experiences
  3. 3Bring attention to places where you feel safe or supported
  4. 4Recall people, memories, or situations that make you feel strong or capable
  5. 5Spend time with these resources to build your capacity
  6. 6Use resources as anchors when working with difficult trauma material
  7. 7Return to resources whenever you feel overwhelmed
  8. 8Allow resources to provide a foundation of safety
