Titration
A technique of working with trauma in very small, manageable amounts rather than all at once. Titration means 'taking one small step at a time'—approaching traumatic material gradually so the nervous system can process it without becoming overwhelmed. This prevents retraumatization and allows for safe healing.
Source: Described in 'Waking the Tiger' by Peter A. Levine. Titration is the practice of working with trauma gradually in small, manageable amounts to prevent overwhelm and allow safe processing.

How to practice
- 1Approach traumatic material in very small amounts
- 2Take one small step at a time rather than diving into everything
- 3Notice when sensations become too intense
- 4Stop and return to resources before becoming overwhelmed
- 5Work with just a tiny piece of the trauma at a time
- 6Allow each small piece to process before moving to the next
- 7Build capacity gradually through this careful, measured approach
- 8Trust that small steps lead to complete healing
